DiRT Showdown

Overview

DiRT: Showdown is an arcade racing game developed and published by Codemasters for Windows, OS X, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Linux. It was released on 25 May 2012 in Europe and on 12 June 2012 in North America. An arcade version was published by Sega.

It drops most of the rally focus of the earlier Dirt games for crash-heavy arcade events such as Rampage, Head 2 Head, Race-Off, Smash Hunter, Knock Out, Eliminator, Domination and Transporter. Ken Block's Ford Fiesta Gymkhana 3 is on the cover.

In the Tour you enter a series of events, offering races and tournaments. Winning gives prize money that buys new cars or upgrades existing ones and unlocks further races. When you complete the final of a series, the next difficulty setting unlocks, with faster opponents and longer races.

The first trailer went up on YouTube in December 2011 and used Labrinth's Earthquake. The official gameplay trailer featured Mother of Girl by Eighteen Nightmares at the Lux, which is also the lead track in the game.

Reviews were mixed. Metacritic averages 72 for PC and 75 for PS3 and Xbox 360. GameSpy called it bargain-basement entertainment value at the 50 dollar price, and PC Gamer said it provides thrills while it lasts but leaves you wanting the deeper experience of its parents.
