Overview

Operation Flashpoint: Red River is a 2011 tactical shooter developed and published by Codemasters for Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the sequel to Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and the last game in the Operation Flashpoint series.

You choose between four Marine classes: rifleman, grenadier, scout and automatic rifleman. Each has its own weapons and abilities, and you earn experience to unlock weapons, attachments and perks. The campaign can be played co-operatively, and the game was built around four-player online co-op. There is no competitive multiplayer, no mission editor and no SDK, and enemies can kill you with a single shot. The campaign is split into three acts.

The game uses a video camera look for its feedback. Shots near you throw dirt on the lens, damage scrambles the screen, and low stamina makes parts of the screen freeze until you rest.

The story follows Outlaw 2 Bravo, a United States Marine Corps fireteam, in a fictional 2013 conflict in Tajikistan. The US invades to wipe out an insurgent threat. China's People's Liberation Army then invades eastern Tajikistan, and the Marines end up fighting a guerrilla war against it before pushing it back across the border.

Reviews were mixed. Metacritic's scores were 67 on PS3 and PC and 69 on Xbox 360. VideoGamer said the campaign was far better than the one in Dragon Rising. IGN did not like how narrowly your movement was locked to a small part of the open terrain, and several outlets criticised the AI. GameSpot and GamesRadar+ praised the tactical missions and the co-op campaign.

• The Rule #1 to Rule #10 trophies are named for the ten rules in Knox's list for your fireteam.
• The base game has its own Platinum with 50 trophies. The Valley of Death pack adds 5 more trophies on top of that.
• With A Little Help needs you to play with three other friends.
• The patch is about 49.5 MB on the North American disc and about 51.2 MB on the European one.
• There is no competitive multiplayer. Online play is the four-player co-op campaign and the Fire Team Engagement maps.
