Start the Party! is a 2010 augmented reality party game developed by Supermassive Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for PlayStation 3. It uses the PlayStation Move controller and is the first game from Supermassive. It is a collection of minigames that use the PlayStation Eye camera.
The PlayStation Eye takes a picture of the players, and the game then shows a live video feed of the room as the background. The Move controller turns into animated objects in a cartoon style, such as a tennis racket for swatting bugs or a spiky prod for popping balloons. Minigames include bug swatting and painting.
Up to four players can share one Move controller. The game runs on Gamebryo.
It came out in Europe on September 15, 2010, in Australasia on September 16 and in North America and the UK on September 17. In Japan it was released as Move de Party on November 18, 2010.
Reviews were mixed, and it holds a Metacritic score of 55. A sequel, Start the Party! Save the World, followed in 2011 and 2012.
