Kinect: Disneyland Adventures is a 2011 open-world game developed by Frontier Developments and published by Microsoft Studios for Xbox 360 with Kinect. It takes place in a recreation of Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California as it was around 2011, with themed minigames in place of many of the rides. The Kinect sensor is required to play.
You play a customizable child visiting the park, helped by a magic golden ticket. Players earn Disney currency by finishing tasks, usually fetch quests, and walk through the park by raising an arm and leaning it left or right. Items handed over by characters, such as a camera from Mickey Mouse, a magic wand from Cinderella or a laser blaster from Buzz Lightyear, are used with the other arm. A second player can drop in and out of co-op.
Out in the park you can meet Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto and Chip 'n' Dale, who appear as animated characters rather than people in costumes. You can hug them, high five them, dance with them, get autographs and take photos. You can wave or say "Hi there!" to start a conversation or enter an attraction. The park also hides secrets and Hidden Mickeys to find with your items.
Some licensed attractions are left out or changed. Star Tours and Indiana Jones Adventure appear without their franchise references, since Lucasfilm owned those at the time. Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin and Tarzan's Treehouse are missing, Black Barty stands in for Captain Jack Sparrow, and corporate sponsor names are removed.
The Xbox 360 version came out on November 15, 2011 in North America, with other regions following over the next month. A remaster by Asobo Studio called Disneyland Adventures, with updated visuals, 4K resolution and controller support, came to Xbox One and Windows on October 31, 2017.
Metacritic gives the Xbox 360 version 73 out of 100 from 33 reviews. The Xbox One remaster scored lower, at 67, with criticism of technical problems and no new content. The game was nominated for Family Game of the Year at the 15th Interactive Achievement Awards.
