LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga is a 2007 Lego-themed action-adventure game based on the Lego Star Wars line of construction toys. Traveller's Tales developed it, and LucasArts announced it on 25 May 2007 at Celebration IV. It came out in North America on 6 November 2007. The Complete Saga combines its two predecessors, LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game (2005) and its sequel LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (2006), and follows the first six episodes of the Skywalker Saga.
You play a third-person mix of action-adventure, platforming and puzzles. Each level puts you in the role of a film character with their own special abilities, and the story is told through dialogue-free, comic retellings of the films. A second player can join at any time, and on PS3 and Xbox 360 online co-op runs through the console's online service. Studs act as the currency, and each player has a health meter of four hearts. If you lose them all, you burst into Lego pieces, drop a few studs and respawn.
The hub is the Mos Eisley Cantina, where you can wander past characters from the films, visit a shop, a junkyard and a two-player arcade, and go through doors to the story levels. There are 36 main story levels, 20 Bounty Hunter missions, six bonus levels and arcade games. Most story levels are the same as in the original games, but two levels cut from the 2005 game, Anakin's Flight and Bounty Hunter Pursuit, are included for the first time.
There are 160 Gold Bricks to collect in the console versions. Each main level holds three: one for finishing it in story mode, one for reaching True Jedi status by collecting enough studs, and one for finding all 10 Minikit canisters. New in this version are a two-player Battle Arena called Arcade Mode, Minikit vehicle bonus missions, red power bricks in the prequel levels, and 10 extra Bounty Hunter missions. The prequel levels also gained buildable vehicles, helmets, blaster dodging and new Force moves. The character count rises to 128, and Indiana Jones is an unlockable character that promoted LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures.
Traveller's Tales made the game in response to the success of the first two, with LucasArts publishing, combining both games while updating graphics and adding levels, characters and costume parts. It was built for the major seventh-generation platforms. The developers ruled out a PlayStation Portable version because they did not have enough resources. The Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and Nintendo DS versions launched in 2007, with Windows following in 2009 and later Mac, iOS and Android versions.
Reviews were favourable on every platform, and the Xbox 360 version holds 80 out of 100 on Metacritic. Worldwide sales passed 3.4 million by May 2009, and by February 2017 the game had sold 15.29 million copies, making it the best-selling Star Wars game of all time. The Nintendo DS version alone sold 4.7 million. Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2009 ranked it the 23rd greatest video game of all time.
