Overview
Ghostbusters is an action game developed by FireForge Games and published by Activision for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Set after the events of the 2016 film, it has four-player cooperative play in which players control new Ghostbusters characters and defeat ghosts. It had a development cycle of eight months and was released in July 2016.
The four heroes from the film are only mentioned, as they have been called away to Washington. Instead the game follows four new recruits, Chaz, Meadow, Megan and Bobby, who cover for them. Their jobs take them to the Aldridge mansion, a graveyard, a run-down asylum, the sewers and a cruise ship, before Rowan, the villain of the film, returns and opens a portal from Limbo.
It is an isometric 2.5D action game with a top-down camera. Up to four players play at once, each controlling one of the four characters, and each character has a different proton pack: one works like a gatling gun, another like a pistol.
Ghostbusters received strongly negative reviews. Metacritic named it the worst reviewed game of 2016, and critics pointed to the lack of variety in its gameplay, levels and enemies, though GameSpot liked its soundtrack. Three days after release, FireForge Games filed for bankruptcy.
