Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare is a 2010 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare is a 2010 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. Fast travel is removed. You ride undead horses and can find and tame four mythical horses of the apocalypse, and hunt Sasquatch, El Chupacabra and a unicorn. New weapons include holy water, bait for the undead and a blunderbuss that uses zombie parts as ammunition. Two new outfits and new achievements come with it.
There are two new multiplayer modes. Undead Overrun is a four-player horde mode against waves of zombies. Land Grab is a mode for the main game's free roam multiplayer where players try to secure seven areas, and only Undead Nightmare owners can start it.
Rockstar had wanted to make a zombie game for a long time. It released Undead Nightmare as downloadable content for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 26 October 2010. A retail disc followed in late November, bundling it with smaller multiplayer packs, Legends and Killers and Liars and Cheats. A later pack, Myths and Mavericks, came in September 2011.
Reviews were generally favourable. It won best downloadable content of the year at the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards. Critics praised its production values and its lighter tone compared with the main game, and some found the combat repetitive and the controls clumsy. The retail disc had sold two million copies by August 2011.
Microsoft added it to the Xbox One backward compatibility list in July 2016, and an update in April 2018 made it an Xbox One X enhanced title running in 4K.

A later pack, Myths and Mavericks, added new multiplayer characters and locations in September 2011 and is not on the disc. The Xbox 360 Store closed on 29 July 2024, so it can only be downloaded again if you bought it before then.
