World of Warships: Legends

Overview

World of Warships: Legends is the console version of World of Warships, a free-to-play naval warfare game made by Wargaming. It came out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2019, and reached PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in April 2021. A mobile version was soft launched in May 2023.

You pick a warship and fight other players, or play co-operative battles against bots. The game is slow-paced and team-based, with three kinds of weapon: naval guns, torpedoes and attack aircraft. Ships come as battleships, cruisers, destroyers and aircraft carriers, and submarines were added later to the main game. Each ship sits in one of ten tiers, and you progress by researching and buying ships up the tiers.

The ships cover the period from the early 1900s to the 1950s, before guided missiles, and include navies such as the United States, Japan, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Russia, plus ships that were planned but never built.

Wargaming announced a console version on June 20, 2018. It was released in early access (Game Preview) for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 16, 2019, and fully released on August 12, 2019. It was rebuilt for console and mobile play and shares the core loop of the PC game, with faster battles and faster progression.

The game is free to play. A lot of progress can be made without paying, but higher levels of play and extra ships get harder to reach without spending money. The PC version of World of Warships scores 81 on Metacritic, and the Xbox One version scores 82.

• The game has no physical disc. It is a free download.
• The achievement list has 38 entries worth 1000 gamerscore, and every one needs online play.
• Getting your Feet Wet is the most common at about 98 percent of players. Living Legend, for promoting a Commander to legendary rank 1, is worth 50 gamerscore.
• The PC game World of Warships launched on September 17, 2015. The console game is a separate build with faster battles.
