Standard- Game disc and instruction manual

Brütal Legend is an action-adventure game with real-time strategy elements, made by Double Fine and published by Electronic Arts for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It came out in October 2009 in North America, Europe and Australia. It was meant to be published by Vivendi Games, but after Activision's merger with Vivendi, Activision dropped it. Electronic Arts picked it up, and the two publishers ended up in a legal fight that was settled out of court.
You play Eddie Riggs, a roadie who gets pulled into a fantasy world that looks like a heavy metal album cover. He has three tools: a broad axe called The Separator, his Flying V guitar Clementine, which casts spells through note-matching solos, and a hot rod called the Druid Plow, also known as the Deuce. Fire Tributes buy upgrades at the Motor Forge. The world is open and covers roughly 40 square miles.
The game also has Stage Battles, where you command troops to beat the enemy and defend your own stage, in both single player and multiplayer. Tim Schafer took the multiplayer inspiration from older strategy games, especially Herzog Zwei, and it was the first major feature the team built because no Double Fine game had done multiplayer before.
Schafer has been a heavy metal fan since high school and had the title for around fifteen years before the game came together after Psychonauts. Eddie is modelled on Jack Black, who also voices him. Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford voice characters, along with Tim Curry. There are 107 metal tracks from 75 bands in the game, picked by Schafer and music director Emily Ridgway.
Two downloadable packs came out: Tears of the Hextadon in early November 2009, which was free on PSN for its first two weeks, and The Hammer of Infinite Fate in mid-December 2009, with new multiplayer maps and single player extras. A Windows version came out in February 2013 and Mac and Linux ports followed in May 2013.
Reviews were positive, with the PS3 version at 83 out of 100. Critics praised the writing, the world and the voice work, and some felt the mix of action and strategy was awkward. Sales in the United States in October 2009 were about 215,000, which was not considered strong, but Schafer said in 2011 that it had sold over 1.4 million copies. It won Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year and Outstanding Achievement in Soundtrack at the 13th Interactive Achievement Awards.
