About the game
MX vs. ATV Untamed is an off-road racing game published by THQ for the PlayStation 2 and all seventh-generation platforms. Rainbow Studios made the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions; Tantalus Media and Incinerator Studios worked on other platforms. It is the last MX vs. ATV game on PlayStation 2, the first in the series on most of the newer platforms, and a sequel to MX vs. ATV Unleashed.
The game has several modes, including Motocross, Opencross, Supercross, Supermoto, Endurocross, Free Ride and Minibikes. You can pick from monster trucks, trophy trucks, ATVs and motorbikes. In some modes an event is two motos, and your finishing position decides gate choice in the second one and how many points you get. Free Ride lets you explore indoor and outdoor locations with no time or track limits.
The console versions support head-to-head split-screen racing between two players, with online multiplayer for bigger fields. This was the last game in the series to use single-stick turning, where the left stick controls all leaning and turning. You can tune acceleration, speed, suspension, engine and brakes, and change the look of your vehicle and rider.
THQ announced it at E3 2007 and had planned an early 2008 release, but it came out in North America for the 2007 holiday season and reached PAL territories in March 2008. The Wii version came later in North America and Australia because Incinerator Studios spent more time on its motion controls.
