About the game
NBA 2K9 is a 2008 basketball simulation game developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K. It is the tenth game in the NBA 2K franchise and the successor to NBA 2K8. It was released in 2008 for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics is the cover athlete.
Like earlier games in the series it simulates the National Basketball Association. You play NBA games with any team you choose and can customize many parts of the style of play and the presentation. There are several single-player and multiplayer modes, including season, online and quick play, and you can create new teams and players.
The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions came out on 7 October 2008 in North America and 10 October in Europe. Reviewers singled out the customization, the Living Rosters feature that updates player data through the season, and the new five-on-five online play.
NBA 2K9 got positive reviews. Critics praised the overall gameplay and the look of the presentation, and some called it the best basketball game around, while others pointed to a lack of new features. By July 2009 it had sold over 2 million copies.
