Overview

The New Nintendo 3DS came out in Japan on 11 October 2014. It adds a faster processor, a little C-stick nub, ZL and ZR buttons, head tracking that keeps the 3D steady, and a built-in amiibo reader.

The small model takes swappable cover plates, which is why collectors chase it. A few games, such as Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, only run on New models. North America didn't get the small one until September 2015.
